WHY JOIN UndiNegaraku?
Undi Negaraku also helps to provide the opportunity of teaching leadership skills to youths, giving them the platform to utilise the tools given to them to create their own educational content, bring awareness to issues that their specific state may be facing, or even approach their local state governments as youth representatives of their own communities.
Undi18 has successfully advocated for the amendment of Article 119(1) of the Federal Constitution to reduce the minimum voting age in Malaysia from 21 to 18 years old. In July 2019, lawmakers from both sides of the divide at the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara unanimously passed the Undi18 bill. To date, Undi18 is a non-partisan social enterprise focusing on voter education and youth public policy engagement.
Since the inception of Undi18, there is a growing community of Undi18 campaign members and programme alumni in Malaysia. Hence, there is a need for a larger avenue for these youth changemakers to connect and engage with each other, to acquire support in starting and continuing projects in their own communities, and to contribute to nation-building in our country.
An Undi18-powered organisation, Undi Negaraku seeks to build a movement of champions for democracy as youths are agents of change. By establishing a network of state chapters across Malaysia, Undi Negaraku provides youths with a unique avenue to learn about policy and activism from a non-partisan lens, and serves as encouragement for youths to actively participate in the socio-political democratic life on the local and national levels.
